Ok, just a little bit about yourself. Where are you from?

Oh, I’m from the midwest at a place called Lake Saint Louis, Missouri. So I grew up on a lake. That’s why I love water. I love being around water. And when I moved to California, I moved to the ocean, which is wonderful, the Pacific Ocean.

I understand you are involved in makeup. How did your makeup company come about?

I have been a model for a lot of my life. All kinds of makeup was used on my face. So that’s why I started DYG BEAUTY — DYG COSMETICS — a mineral makeup that is actually good for your skin.

Most photographers and makeup people really didn’t care about my skin. They cared more about the photo. And so, I would get clogged pores and dehydration of my skin only because of the makeup. So, I have developed a makeup line that doesn’t clog your pores and that is hydrating. This is why I developed DYG MINERAL MAKEUP.

Ok, now I understand so much about you. You had three spas.

Yes, I started the first medical spa called “The Spa at Dermatology Associates” in San Diego; which doctors bought it from me. Then I started “La Jolla Spa MD” in La Jolla. California. This medical spa became world famous with a very large clientele—approximately 500 or so people a day coming through the front doors. We had a 57,500 active client data base of actual clients. I did not buy one list—all active clients

I marketed to by lectures and entertaining. This medical spa I built from the foundation up to include a Research Center and Surgical Center, with operating rooms, 22 medical exam rooms, large administrative area, 8 spa treatment rooms, auditorium, spa boutique, and cafe/juice bar. And then came “The Spa of La Jolla”. Now I am about to do something else.

I think I heard about your spa, from Russian group, because they said that that’s a famous spot about four years ago from Northern California.

From Northern California, where? San Francisco. That’s nice!

Yes, and I don’t know San Diego for sure. I can get around in the world easier than in some areas of San Diego. There are areas that are difficult to maneuver in San Diego, because it’s not in a grid. For example, in the town center area it is a little more difficult to get around than in the downtown area which is in a grid. I am told it takes a while to get connected and you do not get connected right away because many people have been here a long time. It was very easy for me, because people wanted to go to the spa and get to know others!

I’m very busy, but I like that. I don’t think I will ever retire because working is so gratifying. I learn every day, I learn something new every day, and that’s very stimulating for the brain.

The question is, what do you think about women in business? I think it’s wonderful.

I think there’s a happy medium for me. I never had children. My employees were my children and to this day, I have people who have worked for me calling me. They ask such questions as what are you going to do next? Can we come work for you? Where are you? It’s wonderful. I helped develop some of them into the successful business owners they are today!

I had 176 employees at one time and they now have some of their own businesses. They are so thankful, and they tell me this, that’s how I know.

They tell me, you helped me because we worked so hard, but we loved what we did and what we do. That’s why it didn’t seem like work, but it was a lot of hard work to get and become successful. It is. Yes, I know.

My parents instilled in me a very strong work ethic and I have passed it on.

But do you remember this question I’m making right now, but also women, men because they are interested in knowing what we live about. I think that in our best drive, women are not very demanding business and sometimes even more. What is your point?

Yes. And I agree and believe some men will admit it. Others, I’ve seen, where men get your ideas and then they implement them and you have to negotiate with them to give you the credit for your own ideas!

But times are changing. I have had this experience; however, times are changing slowly.

Still look at the statistics. How many CEO’s are women of major companies? The statistics are still out there and not favorable for women. And it will be like that for, i think, sometime. Because I think some women will get out of the work force to have children. That could be an obstacle that causes this. But now men take off for maternity leave to take care of the baby. But I still think it’ll be a while before women really get what they deserve in the workplace.

And you a very beautiful woman, you know that. Can you share your secrets if you have any secrets. It’s something like, you know, what you know. Do you want to keep it secret? Like for a woman, who wants to know, what is your secret?

It’s really common sense. I try to not get a lot of sun, even though years ago I was a lifeguard and had major sun damage. The sun does cause damage and then you have to get laser surgery to reverse the damage. I was on Baywatch and all of the girls on Baywatch were getting sun damage. I preferred my own tv show for a whole year. Addicted to Beauty was on a major television station, Bravo, and was a lot of fun and a lot of major work! But I’ll probably do that again. Recently, I appeared on , which has the same producer as Addicted to Beauty.

I wash my face every single day in the morning and in the evening. I never go to sleep with my makeup on. Never~even though you could wear the makeup to sleep because it is actually good for your skin~full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. I try to allow my skin to breathe, and I always wear an eye lotion.

I try to exercise and stay in shape. I love exercise and exercise at least three times per week. I like to mix it up, but I do like a good power cycle class. That’s great! I’ve done a lot of bicycling in my life. I bicycled from San Francisco all the way down the coastline to La Jolla in a week. We did approximately 100 miles per day in a very organized ride. It was a charity event for the CAF, Challenged Athletes Foundation. In my opinion, this ride was a bit challenging because it was dangerous. You’re on the road with these large trucks. Yes, pavements are not always smooth. There are cracks, road kill, and railroad tracks. So that was interesting. But it was good and I like that. That was a good donation to charity.

And how about food? Food. Mediterranean diet is really good. That’s vegetables and fish; which are great because you’re getting all the essential fish oils, as well. But my favorite meal is a steak and good, cabernet, but that is not the healthiest. But I like to have it at least once a week. It’s OK, it’s fine.

Oh, for your readers. Wishes for your readers to continue to always be engaged in their lives. Read your magazine because it’s your time to learn something. I read every single topic. There’s something to learn and it’s very important to learn, to keep learning, and then to grasp and learn to enjoy and to live life to the fullest.
